Medal. Silver, struck in 1678 to mark the death of Joan Bax van Heerenthals. Joan Bax van Heerenthals served as governor of the Cape of Good Hope and Mauritius from 1676 until his death in 1678. The VOC had a settlement on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean as well.
