About this work

Silver medal. Obverse: under a radiant starry wreath: a tomb, upon which lies a coffin adorned with a cypress branch, a caduceus and a cap; on the base of the tomb a crowned coat of arms between two palm branches, from which an order medal hangs; against the monument stand a shield, cannons, a flag and a spear, from which a laurel wreath hangs; in the background Bentinck's ship "Batavier" within an inscription; edge: inscription. Reverse: a pillar with a twice-crowned coat of arms on top; on the base of the pillar: an image of a winged Victory with a palm branch and laurel wreath, trampling a rose; on both sides of the monument cannons, flags and weaponry within an inscription; edge: inscription within a cartouche.
