About this work

Silver medal. Obverse: Liberty with a cap on her head sits on a broken pillar, resting on a pedestal; in her right hand she holds a coat of arms, crowned with an oak wreath, in her left hand a staff crowned with a radiant eye; on the pedestal a coat of arms hanging from a garland; next to the pillar stands a farmer, resting on his spade; in the background houses by a river within an inscription; edge: two crossed palm branches. Reverse: inscription under a radiant sun and above a shepherd's crook, a sickle and a sack wrapped with leafy branches under a hat.
