About this work

Bronze medal. Obverse: Independence, depicted as a woman with a Belgian flag bearing the year in her right hand and a wreath of ivy leaves in her left, sits on a recumbent lion, between a bust on a pedestal decorated with a floral garland and an inscription, and a sculpture on a pedestal with an inscription; edge: inscription. Reverse: Progress, depicted as a woman with a flame on her head holding a winged wheel, and Peace an olive branch above the head of Liberty, depicted as a woman with a Phrygian cap on her head, who sits between them within an inscription; edge: year and signature.
