About this work

Copper medal. Obverse: lion with a band inscribed INQUI, chained to a gallows; a rat attempts to gnaw through the band within the legend; section: date. Reverse: man with a crown, representing Philip II, offers an olive branch to the Dutch lion, while holding the Inquisition band behind his back; in the background, a man with a tiara, mantle and cross, representing the Pope, looks on within the legend.
