About this work

Silver medal. Obverse: soldier standing on a storm bridge between an altar, on which a Bible and burning candle stand and whose base carries a liberty cap between two swords, and a trophy of arms; soldier wears plumed helmet, shield and sword hung with two wreaths, a club and a sabre; edge: inscription. Reverse: inverted sword, from which a baldrick hangs surrounded by a leaf wreath, in front of two crossed fasces with axes, resting on an altar, whose base carries a fortress between two cannons; left: Mercury with staff and horn of plenty, right: Victory with laurel wreath and horn of plenty; at feet of altar: two recumbent lions; far left: letters S, right: letter C.
