About this work

Silver medal. Obverse: poet, seated at an altar whose pedestal bears a coat of arms, holding a half-unrolled scroll in his hand, while a floating putto above him holds a laurel wreath over his head; on the other side of the altar a putto playing a lyre, a second putto with a book under his arm and an oil lamp, which illuminates a third figure seated and writing in a book; a hand from the clouds draws a circle with a compass inside an inscription. Reverse: a cloth with an inscription, attached to a frame, on which a lyre, sprigs, a book, a scroll, a laurel wreath, and a wreathed trumpet lie; behind them radiant light; on either side of the cloth flower garlands within an inscription.
