About this work

Photo album in a red marbled cover. On the front in a blue frame the word 'Photographs'. Endpapers also red marbled. The album contains 57 pages of beige paper with a total of 213 photographs and 1 banknote. Various photographs have an inscription in English. Other inscriptions in a different handwriting, such as years and indications of persons, seem to have been added later. These include recordings of the Peel, Yates and Bayliff families, recordings of picturesque places, castles, churches, cemeteries, country houses and harbours, in England, Ireland, Gibraltar and Norway. Also images of cricket players and ice skaters in Christiania (Oslo). Also many photographs (sometimes in miniature format) of prints after paintings by, among others, Raphael, Titian, Sir Edwin Henry Landseer, John Everett Millais, Ary Scheffer, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo and Adolph Tidemand.
