About this work
Peter, praying by a tree to which a bunch of keys hangs. He looks at a rooster, which refers to a scene from his life also depicted in the background: a woman recognizes Peter as a follower of Christ, but Peter denies this (after which a rooster crows). Below the image, a two-line Latin text. This print is part of a series of eight penitent sinners; each print in this series consists of a portrait of a sinner, above him/her a number of (musical) angels in a wreath of clouds, in the background a scene from the life of the respective sinner, below the image two lines of text in Latin.
