About this work

The good thief, seated against a wooden cross. In the background, a scene from his life is depicted: he hangs on the cross to the right of the crucified Christ and shows repentance, whereupon Christ promises him that he will enter paradise. Below the image, a two-line Latin text. This print is part of a series of eight penitent sinners; each print in this series consists of a portrait of a sinner, above him/her a number of (musical) angels in a wreath of clouds, in the background a scene from the life of the respective sinner, below the image two lines of text in Latin.
