About this work
God reveals himself to Jacob in Bethel (Genesis 35:9-15). He gives Jacob the name Israel and promises him the land of Abraham and Isaac. After this appearance (left in the print), Jacob sets up an altar for God (middle of the print) and dedicates it by pouring oil over it. In the background, an extensive landscape.
