About this work
Allegory of youth, corresponding to the four times of day and the four seasons. On the triumphal chariot of midday (Meredies) sit Virtue (Virtus), Amor, and Pleasure (Voluptas), accompanied by studying children. The chariot is drawn by two horses, ridden by Boldness (Temeritas) and Art (Ars). The procession is led by a child with a banner depicting the signs of the zodiac, Cancer, Leo, and Virgo, and Ambition (Ambitio) on horseback. In the foreground lies toys. In the margin, a four-line inscription in two columns in Latin.
