About this work

Allegory of childhood, corresponding to the four times of day and the four seasons. On the triumphal chariot of dawn (Aurora) sit Peace (Pax), Innocence (Innocentia), and Chastity (Castitas), accompanied by musically playing children. The chariot is drawn by two horses, ridden by Negligence (Securitas) and Mother Nature (Natura). The procession is led by a child with a banner depicting the signs of the zodiac, Aries, Taurus, and Gemini, and Mirth (Laetitia) on horseback. In the foreground, various animals and playing children. In the margin, a four-line inscription in two columns in Latin.
