About this work

Allegory of old age, corresponding to the four times of day and the four seasons. On the triumphal chariot of night (Nox) sit Fame (Fama) and one of the three Fates (Parcae), accompanied by spinning women. The chariot is drawn by an ox, ridden by Father Time (Tempus), and rolls over people and animals. The procession is led by an old man with a banner depicting the signs of the zodiac, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces, and Death (Fatum) on horseback. In the margin, a four-line inscription in two columns in Latin.
