About this work

Triumphal chariot on which Time (Tempus), as a winged old man with crutches, sits. At his feet stands an hourglass indicating the passing of time. His chariot - with clock faces as wheels - is drawn by swift deer. Time is accompanied by the four seasons. The buildings in the background have fallen into ruins. An obelisk, erected to commemorate a powerful man, has fallen from its pedestal. Thus Time conquers Fame. The print has a Latin inscription and is part of the series about the Triumphs of Petrarch.
