About this work

Tomb of the fleet commander Jan van Galen in the New Church in Amsterdam. He lies in armor on a pedestal, on which also cannons, quivers with arrows and spears lie. On the pedestal an image of a sea battle with below it an epitaph in Dutch. At the top his coat of arms and a biography in Latin.
