About this work

The nymph Salmacis reaches for Hermaphroditus, who tries to ward her off before she embraces him, after which, according to the myth, they would merge into a hermaphroditic being. They sit at the edge of a forest lake. Scene from Ovid's Metamorphoses (Met. II, 341-357).
