About this work

The young Hercules stands under a tree and leans on his club. He must choose between Virtue and Vice. Virtue stands on the left. She wears a long gown and a helmet. In her hand, she holds a spear. She points to a tableau showing the narrow, rocky path climbed by various people. On the right, the naked Vice sits. She holds Hercules' hand. At her feet stands a trap. Above her, a tableau with an abundant banquet. Below the image, a four-line Latin text with a description of the scene.
