About this work

A woman seated as an allegory of piety beside two stone tables bearing the Ten Commandments. A halo of rays surrounds her head, and in her right hand she holds a palm branch. Behind her lie several books. A putto crowns her with a laurel wreath, and with her foot she tramples another putto lying beside a money bag. Below the image is an eight-line Latin text describing the scene and virtue in general.
