About this work

A woman sits as an allegory of piety before two stone tables bearing the Ten Commandments. A halo of rays surrounds her head, and she holds a palm branch in her right hand. Several books lie behind her. A putto crowns her with a laurel wreath, and with her foot she tramples another putto lying beside a bag of money. Below the image is an eight-line Latin text describing the scene and the virtue in general.
