About this work
St. Martinus stands behind his horse on a fool's ship. His cloak hangs over his arm, held by beggars on shore. Several fools are in a fight with fools in a rowing boat, which lies next to the fool's ship. At the water's edge, several figures walk, crawl, and roll, referred to in the text in the margin as 'crippled, dirty and poor rabble'. In the background, several more boats sail. On the left, figures look on from a fortress. Below the image in the margin, a one-line caption in Dutch.
