About this work

H. Martinus stands behind his horse on a fool's ship. Over his arm hangs his cloak, which is held by beggars on shore. Some fools are in a fight with fools in a rowing boat, which lies next to the fool's ship. Along the water's edge, some figures walk, crawl and roll, which in the text in the margin are designated as 'lame, dirty and poor rabble'. In the background several boats are sailing. On the left figures look on from a fortress. Below the representation in the margin a one-line caption in Dutch.
