About this work
The whale (potvis) stranded on 3 February 1598 on the beach at Berckhey between Katwijk and Scheveningen. With many visitors on the beach, in the foreground some riders, behind the animal a procession of people and wagons, to the left the sea. With inscriptions of three times two lines in Latin and three times four lines in Dutch.
