About this work
The whale (potvis) stranded on 2 February 1598 on the beach at Berckhey between Katwijk and Scheveningen. With many visitors on the beach, in the foreground some riders, behind the animal a procession of people and carriages, to the left the sea. With inscriptions of 3 times 2 lines in Latin and 3 times 4 lines in Dutch.
