About this work

Curtain with the title in Dutch. In front of it sits an elegantly dressed couple on the ground holding each other's hand (Touch). To the left a standing couple with lute and music book (Hearing). To the right a couple where the man smells a glass of wine (Smell and Taste). Above the curtain with the title a reclining naked Venus being shown a mirror by Cupid (Sight). In the foreground (from left to right) the attributes of the five senses: deer, tortoise, flower basket, dog and wine jug.
