About this work

Winter landscape with winter scenes. February is the stubble month. In the foreground, dead wood remaining from the winter is chopped and collected. People warm themselves at a self-built fire. A procession is going on in the background while some beggars dressed visit the houses for alms, a variation on carnival, Shrove Tuesday or Kopper Monday. In the middle top the constellation Pisces. In this series of the twelve months, each month is depicted with the human activities typical for it, its climatic characteristics and its constellation.
