About this work
Surrounded by a crowd, Christ carries the cross to Golgotha. He supports himself on his hands and knees and is about to collapse under his burden. Soldiers urge him on and pull him forward. Next to the cross, Mary kneels with folded hands, and Simon of Cyrene helps Christ carry his burden.
