About this work
Surrounded by a crowd, Christ carries the cross to Golgotha. He supports himself on hands and knees, threatening to succumb under his load. Soldiers urge him on and pull him further. Next to the cross kneels Mary with folded hands, Simon of Cyrene helps Christ carry his load.
