About this work

The fall of Phaëthon and the metamorphosis of the Heliades into poplars in a frame of scrollwork. In the scrollwork a lion's paw is grasped both on the left and on the right, which extends into the upper body of a winged woman. On both sides of the sheet half of a herm representing Cybele is visible. Hatched background. Leaf from a series consisting of a title page and 15 of the 16 sheets with cartouches containing biblical and mythological scenes in a frame of scrollwork and grotesques.
