About this work
The fall of Phaëthon and the metamorphosis of the Heliades into poplars in a frame of strapwork. In the strapwork, both left and right, a lion's paw is set, which extends into the upper body of a winged woman. On both sides of the sheet, half of a herm representing Cybele is visible. Hatched background. Sheet from a series consisting of a title page and 15 of the 16 sheets with cartouches containing biblical and mythological representations in a frame of strapwork and grotesques.
