A poet sits by a monument with various poetry collections of famous poets, such as Joost van den Vondel and P.C. Hooft, on the ground in front of his feet. On a cloud appears a muse playing a lyre, possibly Erato. In the background the muses sit on Mount Parnassus and Pegasus approaches them.
