About this work
Portrait of Leopold William, Archduke of Austria and Governor-General of the Southern Netherlands. His portrait is set in a medallion placed on a monument decorated with caryatids. Putti decorate the portrait with ribbons. At the top, the coat of arms of Austria in a cartouche, flanked by angels and eagles. Top left, a putto with a shield, and top right, a putto with a feather in his hand. At the bottom, a cartouche with an inscription in Latin. To the left in the foreground, Bellona, in armor and holding a globe, and to the right, Liberty with broken chains. In the margin, a four-line inscription in Latin.
