Sleeping Peddler Robbed by Monkeys

About this work
When a peddler lies sleeping under a tree, he is robbed by a group of monkeys. His wares are sold in the background to a monkey family (this time dressed as citizens). The monkeys also soil his hat and boots. In the right corner a bearded monkey looks at himself in a mirror. Both the glasses and the mirror stand for deception and (attempt at) self-knowledge.
