About this work
A nursery from the 16th century, in which the people and their actions are represented by monkeys. Various female monkeys care for a mother monkey who lies in bed and gives her newborn the breast. In the foreground young monkeys are punished with a rod. A baby monkey lies sleeping in the middle of the room. Right of the crib some monkeys warm themselves at the fireplace.
