Tycho Brahe at the age of forty, half-length, facing front, in an arched niche, dressed in a mantle with a standing collar, beneath which a pleated collar. Chains around the neck, glove(s) in the left hand, cap on the windowsill by the right hand. On the arched niche various coats of arms with family names. Latin caption in a cartouche. On both sides of the cartouche the motto 'Non Haberi Sed Esse'.
