About this work

Tycho Brahe at the age of forty, half-length, seen from the front, in an arched niche, dressed in a cloak with a standing collar, under which a pleated collar. Chains around the neck, glove(s) in the left hand, cap on the windowsill by the right hand. On the arched niche various coats of arms with family names. Latin inscription in a cartouche. On both sides of the cartouche the motto 'Non Haberi Sed Esse'.
