About this work
In the early 17th century, love, courtship, and music went together. House concerts were the preferable social venue for young people to meet. A gentleman might have been invited to an afternoon or evening concert to meet a young lady. Under the supervision of her parents, playing instrumental music and singing became an opportunity to find a suitable spouse.
