About this work

Fernando Alvarez de Toledo - known as the Duke of Alba - demands the Tenth Penny in a meeting of the States, 1569. Alba sits on a chair with lion's feet. He wears a hat with extravagant feathers and has a broad-brimmed hat on his mantle. This print is part of a series of 24 prints with scenes from the life of Prince William I, 1568-1584 and is an illustration to the fourth song.
