About this work
Hugo de Groot steps into the book chest, 22 March 1621. He is assisted in this by his wife Maria van Reigersberch and their maid Elsje van Houweningen. Van Reigersberch had devised the plan for the escape with the book chest, and Van Houweningen played a major role in its execution. In the caption, a quote of 2 lines (p. 127).
