About this work
The element earth, personified by the naked goddess Cybele. Cybele wears a mural crown and holds a bunch of flowers in one hand and a model of a city in the other. She is surrounded by the fruits of the earth and the personifications of life and death, respectively a newborn and a skeleton. In the background, the animals of the earth in a vast landscape. The print has a Latin caption. The print is part of a four-part series on the four elements.
