About this work

False Opinion pushes the Foolish World (an inverted globe) towards the abyss of hell with a wheelbarrow. Truth (Veritas) cannot intervene. She lies chained hand and foot on the ground. Justice (Justitia) stands in the background. She has thrown away her attributes (sword and scales) and looks on helplessly as the World goes under. The print has a Latin and a Dutch inscription and is part of a four-part series on the theme of how false opinion brings the world to ruin.
