About this work
On the left, the patriarch Levi, the third son of Jacob, in armor. In the background, the siege of the city of Shechem, which Levi destroyed together with Simeon as revenge for the dishonor of their sister Dinah. On the right, the patriarch Judah, the fourth son of Jacob, in armor. Beside him a lion, a reference to Judah's nickname 'lion's whelp', or to Christ 'the lion of Judah'. Each image has a Latin inscription, and the sheet contains the third and fourth print from a series on the twelve patriarchs of Israel.
