About this work
City view. On the left stands Minerva at Envy and asks her to make Aglauros jealous of her sister Herse. Because of this jealousy, Aglauros tried to prevent Mercury from entering Herse's room and was turned into black stone by his staff. Below the image, a text from Ovid's Metamorphoses, Book 2, verses 792-793.
