About this work
The melancholic temperament in the guise of a winged woman gazing thoughtfully into the distance, her jaw resting on her left hand, holding a compass. Around her various (measuring) instruments, such as a scale, an hourglass, and a saw. At her feet a dog. Next to her a putto writing something on a tablet. Bottom right on a stone the monogram of Albrecht Dürer and the dating of his print.
