About this work

In the foreground a priest stands at an altar in a temple. On the altar two doves are burned and the smoke rises towards a statue that symbolizes love. The altar is decorated with two clasped hands as a symbol of unity and hearts as love symbols. Behind the altar stands a young couple who promise fidelity to each other. In the right foreground Amor chases the personification of Envy with his bow out of the temple with water.
