About this work

Men and horses are busy erecting the Vatican Obelisk (in 1586) on St. Peter's Square, with the help of a large wooden scaffolding. Top right an ornate frame with text, the coat of arms of Pope Sixtus V and personifications of Religion and Greatness. Bottom right men transporting the obelisk with the help of round poles. Representation is framed in an ornate frame.
