About this work
Saint Augustine kneels before a vision of Christ on the cross. A beam of light strikes him in his heart. On the ground lie his attributes: the bishop's mitre and crozier and inkwell with pen. At the bottom of the margin a verse from Augustine's Confessions in Latin.
