About this work
Two sailors are talking to each other. Next to them stands an Islamic galley slave. Around them, other Islamic galley slaves sit and lean on bales and sacks. These enslaved men are identifiable as Muslims by the characteristic hairstyle (shaved head except for a tuft) which they were required to have. To the left in the foreground, a barrel and an anchor. Behind them, a galley is being loaded or unloaded with the help of a rowboat.
