About this work
Two sailors are talking to each other. Next to them stands a Muslim galley slave. Around them, other Muslim galley slaves are sitting and leaning on bales and sacks. These enslaved men are identifiable as Muslims by their characteristic hairstyle (shaved head except for a tuft) which they were obliged to wear. On the left in the foreground, a barrel and an anchor. Behind them, a galley is being loaded or unloaded with the help of a rowboat.
