About this work
On the right, three Muslim galley slaves stand by a fountain. One of them drinks from the fountain and a second washes his face. In the middle, a dog sniffs at a wooden barrel. On the left, four more Muslim galley slaves, one of whom is smoking a pipe and another holding a halberd. These enslaved men are identifiable as Muslims by their characteristic hairstyle (shaved head except for a tuft) which they were obliged to wear. Behind them, a galley is sailing.
